"Your Cheatin' Heart" est une chanson du véritable pilier de la “Country” que fut Hank Wiliams. C’est aussi l’une des dernières chansons qu’il
écrivit et enregistra, et elle ne fut diffusée qu’après sa mort en 1953. Elle
connut alors un très grand succès, et fut reprise par les plus grands artistes,
dont
Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Van Morrison, Patsy Cline, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Glen Campbell, Jerry Lee Lewis, Joni James, Don McLean, The Jordanaires,
et Frankie Laine.
Le thème de la trahison et de l’infidélité est l’un des sujets récurrents
de la “Country”, avec de multiples variations qui ont presque toutes en commun
une vision très univoque de la question, au point que certaines chansons comme
« Wild Side of Life » ont suscité, en leur temps, une vive polémique
et donné lieu a des réponses sous forme de chansons assez bien tournées.
« Your Cheating Heart » présente au moins la singularité de
pouvoir être chantée indifféremment au masculin ou au féminin, pour rétablir l’égalité,
sinon la justice.
